Common Questions

Do I really get the phone for free?
It depends on the deal type. Instant discount deals from prepaid carriers (Cricket, Boost, Metro) give you the savings at checkout — the phone is yours immediately. Bill credit deals from T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T spread the discount over 24–36 monthly credits. If you cancel before the credits finish, you owe the remaining balance.
What happens if I cancel a bill credit deal early?
The remaining device balance becomes due immediately. For example, if you have a $1,299 phone on 36-month credits and cancel at month 12, you'd still owe about $865. The credits simply stop — there's no penalty beyond the unpaid device balance.
How long until I can unlock my phone?
It varies by carrier. Metro: 14 days (with $100 top-up). Cricket: 6 months. Boost: 12 months. T-Mobile: 24 months (when credits complete). Verizon and AT&T: 36 months (when credits complete). Until unlocked, the phone only works on that carrier's network.
What plan do I need?
Most deals require a specific plan. T-Mobile typically requires Experience Beyond ($100/mo). Verizon requires Unlimited Ultimate ($90/mo). AT&T requires Unlimited ($90/mo). Prepaid carriers generally require their premium plan ($50–60/mo). The plan is mandatory for the full credit period on bill credit deals.
Can I sell the phone after unlocking?
Yes. Once the phone is unlocked (after the carrier's required timeline), it's fully yours to sell, trade in, or use on any carrier. For instant discount deals, you can sell it once the unlock period passes. For bill credit deals, you'd need to keep paying the plan until credits complete before unlocking.
